Sub-Agents and Autonomous Testing Workflows
What Are Sub-Agents?
A sub-agent is an AI agent that is spawned by a parent agent to handle a specific subtask autonomously. The parent defines what needs to be done, the sub-agent does it using its own set of tools, and returns the result back to the parent.
The BlazeMeter post From AI Copilots to Agentic, Intent-Driven Test Automation describes this approach in detail. In 2025, most AI in testing was about generating scripts faster. Now the focus is moving to AI that executes tasks autonomously; not producing artifacts for humans to run, but performing the work directly. Sub-agents are how that plays out in practice for performance testing.
